Hair Care: Dabur Amla Gold Hair Oil

As much as I love my original Moroccan Hair Oil, while on holiday in India a few weeks back, I couldn't carry my precious oil with me, and in the first week I could see signs of my hair getting dry and I needed an extra moisture boost, so my next pharmacy visit, I picked up a bottle of Amla Gold Hair Oil for approximately R15 for a 100ml bottle. It was really affordable, and this Gold edition was especially for dry, damaged and chemically treated hair. It is said to make hair long, strong, soft and shiny.

So honestly, Amla hair oil is no stranger to me, while growing up this was a popular hair oil and has been around for over 30 years. I remember my mother using it on my hair growing up for soft silky hair, so I was quite interested in sharing my findings about the Amla Gold with my readers. So I've been using this hair oil once a week in my hair, and wow... I can feel my hair a lot more silkier, normally I have some hair fall, but I've noticed my hair is falling less as well, if it counts, my Tangle Teezer glides through my hair so much more easily now.

The Amla Gold Hair Oil contains:
  • Amla- to nourish and strengthen hair from the roots to make it long, strong and beautiful.
  • Almonds- to moisturise and soften hair
  • Henna- to coat and condition hair and give it shine.
The oil is an olive colour and has a regular oil consistency. So this was a perfect excuse for a relaxing head massage, because you can't really use this oil after washing hair, so I would recommend using it as a pre wash leave in treatment. The scent is quite strong and musky, but it is traditional so I really love it. After washing my hair thoroughly and removing all of the oil, my hair was so shiny and soft, I loved it. So going a little traditional and old school has it's benefits. If you spot this one around, I'd recommend you give it a try!

Invisibobble

If you haven't heard, Invisibobble is the latest trend to amazing hair care, so what exactly is it? It is a trace less hair ring, which comes in a radical design. Compared to regular hair ties, this hair ring looks like a telephone wire, YES!! You read right, it looks like a telephone wire, but don't let this hair ring fool you... It is amazing! After doing some research on the Invisibobble, I searched a few online stores which stocked it such as Rubybox and Retail Box. I also checked a few local salons, which really recommended this... At first I thought they just wanted me to spend R80 on three plastic hair ties, but I was wrong.
The Invisibobble is promoted for various reasons, which are:
  • It is traceless
  • It avoids headaches
  • Doesn't give you split ends
  • Has a strong grip
  • Is for all hair types

I purchased the pack which contains three different colours, mine contained a black, hot pink and red Invisibobble. The first one I used was a red. My hair is pin straight and I hate getting a hair line, so the Invisibobble promised no hair lines, YES! It lived up to the promise. Over time the Invisibobble does get loose, so you need to give it a few days to get back to its original shape. I will admit, I snapped the red one in a day, so I didn't think they were going to last long... Luckily the rest were quite long lasting and are still going strong!
So I'd say R80 is quite steep for some hair ties, right? Exactly so if you would like something similar which gives you the same features... I'd recommend checking the Woolworths hair range, I purchased the Invisibobble dupe for R25, plus it included 5 of these hair rings! I'd really recommend you give it a try... It is amazing and you would definitely believe me when you try it.

P.S. : I am super sorry for not including my own pictures!

Volume with Moroccanoil
The Moroccanoil products hit South African shores a few years ago, and there was much hoo-haa about them. I remember not purchasing the famed oil because I thought it was overpriced and there was something about oil mixed with hair that made me nervous (I used to suffer with oily roots). Once I used though, I was sold!!!!

As much as can go on about the oil, my review is on the Moroccanoil Extra Volume Shampoo and Conditioner. I used to have really fine hair due to heat styling and not using correct products.Although my hair is much healthier now, I still tend to gravitate to anything that has the word Volume associated with it. I received a voucher from a salon (due to their botched attempt of colouring my hair), the salon had just recently started stocking Moroccanoil products. I used the voucher to buy the much talked about product range.
Shampoo:
Hands down I am going to be honest; I was highly disappointed by the Shampoo. As I applied it, it felt like the product disappeared (There was no lather as with most Shampoo’s). Once washed off my hair felt sticky and heavy (The oddest description I know). The only pro I can say is that it is suitable for colour treated hair.
Price:  R265
Rate: 2/5
Conditioner:
The conditioner makes up for the lacklustre Shampoo. Upon application my hair felt soft instantly, it is very light weight and detangles your hair (Trust me after using the shampoo you need that). Another plus is that even though I used it on my roots, there was no oily residue after I dried my hair. This product is also suitable for colour treated hair. I would probably buy the extra volume conditioner and use it in conjunction with another brand of shampoo.
Price: R290
Rate: 5/5
(Note that all prices are based on what I paid)
Now the main question: Do I have flowy, bouncy hair?
Not really. I have used the products for about two months and there is no difference in the texture in my hair. The only thing is that it has maintained the healthiness, although I have coloured my hair twice while using it. My hair is still soft with minimal damage to the ends.
I recommend if your local salon stocks ask them to wash your hair with your preferred choice, or if they can provide samples.
